Mana Pools & the Zambezi Wilderness

Mana Pools National Park, in Zimbabwe's Zambezi Valley, offers a more adventurous side of Africa — exploring floodplains on foot and paddling the Zambezi with an experienced guide. It is one of the defining locations in Southern Africa for genuine walking safaris, alongside Hwange and the Matobo Hills: see safari activities explained for what a walking or canoe safari actually involves.

The park's floodplains and ana tree forests along the Zambezi draw large concentrations of elephant, buffalo and plains game in the dry season, with predators including lion, leopard and wild dog, and a well-earned reputation among specialist safari travellers for remote, low-density wilderness.
