Exceptional knowledge
creates exceptional journeys.
A specialist Southern African DMC built on one idea: understand the destination, understand the traveller, then match the two.
Elize Taylor, founder, Africa Compass Collection
Elize Taylor
For more than three decades, Elize Taylor has been crafting and designing exceptional safaris across Southern and East Africa. Her experience spans some of the world's largest international tour operators, travel companies and destination management organisations.
But her knowledge goes far beyond the office, the brochures and the most luxurious camps and lodges. Having lived in the Western Cape, on the doorstep of the Kruger National Park, and in Maun, Botswana, she has experienced Africa from the inside. She understands its landscapes, seasons, weather patterns, vegetation and wildlife movements — the intricate details that can transform a good safari into an extraordinary one.
Travel experts in London, New York and Berlin may know the names of the top ten luxury lodges. Elize understands what makes each destination special, when to visit, what to expect, and which experience is right for each individual traveller.
A truly memorable safari is not simply about the most expensive lodge or ticking off the Big Five. It is about finding the right place, at the right time, for the right person.
At Africa Compass Collection, Elize brings this philosophy to every journey we create. Her approach is personal, honest and grounded in first-hand experience, with a commitment to matching every client with a safari that reflects their interests, expectations and sense of adventure.
Welcome to Africa Compass Collection: personalised safaris, honest advice and knowledgeable people who understand Africa.
If you want to know what makes Elize tick, start here.
It may raise a few eyebrows, and that is precisely the point. This isn't about following the crowd, repeating the industry's familiar recommendations or simply naming the most luxurious camps. It is about looking beyond the obvious, challenging convention and sharing the places and experiences that a true destination expert believes are worth discovering.
Huab Lodge, Damaraland
A private farm in the Huab River Valley near Kamanjab — desert-adapted wildlife and total quiet, well off the main Namibia circuit.
Mopiri, Western Okavango Delta
Tucked into the northwest Delta, away from the busier eastern concessions — water, light and space with barely another vehicle in sight.
Bateleur Safari Camp, Timbavati
A small, classic camp inside the Timbavati — proof that Greater Kruger doesn't have to mean a big lodge to deliver big-cat country.
Khayelitshe House, Matobo
Matobo gets overlooked next to Hwange and Mana Pools, and that's exactly the appeal — balancing granite kopjes, rhino and real solitude.
Tintagel Guest House, Cape Town
A city-bowl base in Gardens — proof that a Cape Town add-on doesn't need a beach-hotel budget to feel special.
There is a difference between telling the world you know Africa and truly knowing Africa. At Africa Compass Collection, we believe that difference matters.

5-star deluxe
the Privé Collection, for guests who want privacy
Our role is not simply to book accommodation. Our role is to understand the destination, understand the traveller, and then put the two together. We believe this is becoming increasingly important in a travel industry where generic itineraries, automated recommendations and online booking platforms are making it easier to sell travel — but not necessarily easier to create the right journey.
Africa Compass Collection is designed to bridge that gap. We combine deep, first-hand Southern African destination knowledge; specialist Botswana expertise; growing specialist knowledge of Namibia; generations of Kruger and Greater Kruger knowledge; resident local knowledge of Cape Town, the Winelands and Garden Route; professional DMC operations; tailor-made itinerary design; independent product selection; practical use of technology; and a dedicated 5-star and 5-star-deluxe Privé Collection.
The result is a DMC that combines people, knowledge, technology and product to create better Southern African journeys.
Botswana — our core destination
Botswana is the foundation of Africa Compass Collection. The Okavango Delta, Moremi, Khwai, Chobe, Savuti, Linyanti, Makgadikgadi, Nxai Pan and the wider northern Botswana safari regions form the company's principal area of expertise. This knowledge allows us to move beyond the standard Botswana itinerary — we understand the differences between individual concessions, national parks, camps, lodges, seasons, access routes, airstrips, aircraft operations and safari experiences, and more importantly, which product is right for which traveller.
A first-time safari traveller, an experienced safari enthusiast, a honeymoon couple, a family, a multi-generational group and a luxury traveller may all visit Botswana. They should not necessarily experience the same Botswana. Our knowledge allows us to design journeys around wildlife priorities, water and land-based safari, walking and specialist guiding, photography, families and multi-generational travel, honeymoons, private groups, affordable luxury through to 5-star-deluxe travel, mobile safari, self-drive and camping, cultural experiences and Green Season travel.

The Africa Compass Collection
The name reflects the philosophy behind the business. Botswana is our foundation, but Southern Africa is the journey. We connect four powerful destination experiences — Botswana (the Okavango Delta, Moremi, Khwai, Chobe, Savuti, Linyanti, Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pan); Victoria Falls, Hwange & Mana Pools; Kruger & Greater Kruger; and Cape Town, the Winelands & the Garden Route — experienced individually or combined into seamless journeys such as Cape Town → Kruger → Victoria Falls → Botswana, or Namibia → Botswana → Victoria Falls. The itinerary is designed around the traveller, not around a predetermined package.

Namibia — a destination in its own right
Namibia is Southern Africa's most dramatic contrast in landscape. Where Botswana is defined by water, Namibia is defined by space: towering red dunes, an ancient gravel desert meeting the Atlantic, granite mountains sheltering desert-adapted elephant and rhino, and some of the last true wilderness left on the continent.
Namibia's Zambezi Region — the former Caprivi Strip — borders Botswana directly and forms part of the same Kavango–Zambezi (KAZA) conservation landscape as Chobe and the Okavango. A Namibia journey can stand entirely on its own, or extend east into Chobe and Victoria Falls, or combine with a Botswana safari, without ever leaving one coherent, connected safari region.
Why book with Africa Compass Collection?
We know Botswana. Not simply the names of the camps — we understand the destinations, the roads, the airstrips, the seasons, the wildlife areas, the transfer logistics, the character of individual properties and the practical realities of moving clients through the country.
We design — we don't package. We do not believe every client should receive the same Botswana itinerary. Every journey begins with the traveller: what do they want to experience, how experienced are they, how much time and budget do they have, do they want luxury or authenticity, water activities, walking, photography, family experiences, adventure or simply exceptional game viewing. Only then do we begin building the itinerary.
Kruger — a connection that runs deep
Elize's own connection with the Kruger National Park goes back generations, having lived on its doorstep before her years in Maun, Botswana. That first-hand grounding — in the reserves, lodges, roads, seasons and character of the region — goes well beyond a supplier brochure. Our regional knowledge includes Kruger National Park, Sabi Sand, Timbavati, Klaserie, Balule, Hoedspruit, the Lowveld, the Panorama Route, private reserves and lodges, and Johannesburg and Pretoria.
Botswana and Kruger are both exceptional safari destinations, but they are not the same safari. Our job is to understand those differences and use them to create a journey where each destination adds something new.

Cape Town, the Winelands & the Garden Route
Knowing Cape Town from a hotel directory is very different from knowing the Cape. Africa Compass Collection gains an additional advantage through our resident destination expert based at the beginning of the Garden Route, providing localised, first-hand knowledge of Cape Town, the Winelands, the Overberg and the Garden Route — the privately owned estates, extraordinary viewpoints, exceptional restaurants, small producers and characterful properties that give a journey its sense of discovery.
Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls provides one of the most natural extensions to a Botswana safari. The combination of Botswana's wilderness with the extraordinary spectacle of Victoria Falls creates a powerful Southern African journey — Zambezi River experiences, sunset cruises, wildlife and adventure activities, Hwange, Mana Pools, Chobe and Botswana's northern safari areas, all coordinated by a single knowledgeable DMC.

The Privé Collection
Exceptional places. Exceptional privacy. Exceptional service. Alongside our core DMC portfolio, Africa Compass Collection offers access to a distinct premium collection — a carefully selected portfolio of 5-star and 5-star-deluxe properties across Southern Africa, reserved for properties offering extraordinary location, exceptional architecture or design, privacy, personalised service, exclusivity, exceptional guiding, unique experiences, private-use accommodation, outstanding food and wine, and a genuine sense of place. Africa Compass Collection is the DMC; the Privé Collection is the exceptional end of the product, run by our private-villa partner on their own site — the two work together, allowing us to build itineraries around the traveller rather than a predetermined accommodation category. Read more on the Africaprivé site.
Independent advice
Africa Compass Collection is positioned as an independent DMC and travel partner. Our responsibility is to recommend the property, camp, lodge, route and experience that best suits the traveller and the selling agent. We do not believe in forcing every client into the same product — where appropriate, we recommend locally owned, independent and citizen-owned properties alongside established international brands, and alongside the Privé Collection. Not every property in our portfolio is equally vetted, contracted or available, so we say which is which, and we disclose it where a commercial relationship (such as with our Privé Collection partner) could otherwise look like a conflict. The right product comes before the sale.
Technology & people
We use technology, including AI tools, to help with itinerary building, quotations, supplier analysis, content and trade responses — so that our team has more time for relationships. It does not replace first-hand experience: guides, camps and years on the ground still decide what we recommend. It cannot replace the person who has actually been there, or the judgement built through direct, on-the-ground experience.
[Add a named lead, credentials or a specific example here, if you want to keep a claim of in-house AI expertise.]
Tailor-made at every price point
Africa Compass Collection is not restricted to one price category. We design classic Botswana safaris, affordable luxury journeys, premium safaris, family safaris, honeymoon itineraries, photographic safaris, private safaris, fly-in safari circuits, mobile safari experiences, self-drive and camping programmes, Namibia desert and self-drive journeys, Victoria Falls combinations, Botswana–South Africa combinations, Cape Town and Winelands extensions, Kruger and Greater Kruger safaris, and ultra-luxury itineraries through the Privé Collection. The objective is not to sell the most expensive itinerary — the objective is to sell the right itinerary.
More than a booking desk.
Our relationship with the trade does not end when the booking is confirmed. We aim to become an extension of the agent's own business — regular product updates, new property introductions, destination training, product presentations, agent familiarisation opportunities, assistance with complex itineraries, rapid quotation support, last-minute availability, destination advice, on-the-ground support and emergency assistance when required. The agent should never feel that they have simply handed a booking to a supplier. They should feel that they have gained a Southern African specialist working alongside them.
Our core difference
There are large DMCs, specialist safari operators, hotel wholesalers and online booking platforms, and each offers part of the picture. We aim to combine their strengths for the agents and advisors we work with — local destination knowledge, DMC operational capability, specialist Botswana expertise, growing Namibia expertise, generations of Kruger knowledge, resident Cape & Garden Route knowledge, Southern African regional connectivity, independent product selection, practical technology, and the Privé Collection. The result is a DMC that can handle the complete Southern African journey while retaining the personal knowledge and attention normally associated with a specialist operator.
For agent training, familiarisation trips, webinars and accreditation, see Training on the Trade Tools page.
Where we workOne DMC. One Southern African journey.
A traveller can begin among the dunes of Namibia, fly into Botswana for a private Okavango safari, continue to Chobe and Victoria Falls, and finish with a private reserve safari in South Africa — or begin in Cape Town and run the same circuit in reverse. One itinerary. One DMC. One point of contact.
