The Zambezi Region (formerly the Caprivi Strip) is Namibia's narrow, finger-like extension in the far northeast, touching Angola, Zambia, Botswana and Zimbabwe at a markedly flatter and greener altitude than the rest of the country. More than half of Namibia's buffalo and elephant populations live within this small region, anchored by three national parks: Bwabwata, Mudumu, and Nkasa Rupara, Namibia's own miniature Okavango Delta.
Rivers — the Kwando, the Zambezi and the Okavango's upper reaches — define the region, with boating, birding and river-based game viewing the dominant activities. It combines naturally with a Botswana or Victoria Falls itinerary, forming a corridor that links the Zambezi Region to Chobe and the wider KAZA transfrontier conservation area.
