Zambezi Mubala Lodge is a riverfront lodge 40 km east of Katima Mulilo on the D3508 (Kalimbeza Road), part of the Gondwana Collection. The name Mubala means colour, and the decor uses blues and greens that reflect the river and vegetation. It stands on the site of the former Kalizo Lodge, rebuilt and reopened under Gondwana Collection in November 2017, and is positioned as a hidden gem with an emphasis on river views and birdlife.

The lodge has 21 bungalows: 4 twin rooms, 13 double rooms and 4 family rooms with four beds. Twin and double rooms take 2 adults and 1 child; family rooms take 2 adults and 2 children. All are en suite with a shower, air conditioning and heating, a safe, veranda, tea and coffee station, hairdryer, small fridge and mosquito nets.

Facilities are a cold-water pool, restaurant and bar, curio shop and 24-hour security. Activities are boat cruises (1.5 hours at sunset, 3 hours morning or afternoon), catch-and-release fishing, a seasonal three-hour guided walk to bird colonies and day excursions to Victoria Falls, about 215 km away.

DMC view: The strongest single property in the Katima area — a genuine river base for couples, birders and anglers. Wifi is limited to the main lodge reception, the Victoria Falls excursion is a long day trip, and it is not a spa property.
