Palmwag Campsite
Palmwag Campsite is the camping option in the Palmwag Concession, a few kilometres north of the C43/C49 junction. Gondwana describes a peaceful setting for nature lovers in a wildlife-rich concession with elephants, black rhinos and what it calls the largest predator population outside Etosha National Park.
There are 18 campsites, each taking up to 6 guests and either 1 camper van or 2 SUVs. Each has a power point, light, wash basin, fireplace and private ablution facilities with hot and cold water, plus braai areas. Campers can use the lodge's restaurant, bar, curio shop and two cold water pools, with WiFi at the main lodge. The 1,300 m airstrip offers free transfers for up to 6 people per vehicle.
Activities include a full-day Damaraland excursion, rhino tracking and the under-canvas sleep-out (both age 12 and over), nature drives and guided hikes. Elephants are active around the site at night, so guests are advised to stay alert. It suits self-drive campers and overlanders on a Damaraland route rather than those wanting a bed made up or catered service.
