Waterbuck Lodge is a small lodge in the southern part of the Thornybush Private Game Reserve near Hoedspruit, next to a dam, at Waterbuck Gate on Guernsey Road. Reservations run through Safaris and Retreats. This is a distinct property from Waterbuck Private Camp, a separate four-bedroom villa in the Timbavati — the two should not be confused when quoting.

There are four air-conditioned luxury suites, described as standalone thatched chalets, each with an en-suite bathroom, minibar, safe, separate bath and shower, outdoor shower, hairdryer and tea and coffee facilities; twin beds convert to a super king. Maximum capacity is 8 guests, and the lodge can be booked for exclusive use by families or groups. Main facilities are a pool and sunbathing deck, library, bar, dining area and boma, with a viewing deck overlooking a waterhole.

Game drives take place morning and afternoon in open 4x4 vehicles with a guide and tracker, with bush walks after breakfast tailored to fitness levels, plus birding and photography; the Big Five are present in the reserve. Children of any age are welcome, though the minimum age for game drives varies by source — confirm directly with the lodge. Complimentary WiFi is provided; drinks beyond tea, coffee and snacks are not included.
