Makumu Private Game Lodge

Makumu Private Game Lodge is a fully inclusive luxury lodge in the Klaserie Private Nature Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger National Park near Hoedspruit, South Africa. The lodge is the realisation of owner Stefan Breuer's childhood dream, built with his family and a dedicated creative team, and is designed around the aesthetics and stories of three Southern African peoples — the Bushman, Ndebele and Zulu.

Makumu comprises 6 suites accommodating up to 12 guests, arranged as three themed villas (Bushman, Ndebele and Zulu), each pairing a larger King Suite with a smaller Impi Suite; every suite has an en-suite bathroom with bath, shower and toilet, plus an outdoor shower. A standout feature is the elevated Tree House overlooking a waterhole, a shaded retreat for reading, birdwatching or a midday gin and tonic while game passes below, alongside the newer iThumbela photographic bunker sunk below ground level for close, ground-level wildlife photography. The fully inclusive rate covers day, night and walking safaris with a dedicated ranger and tracker, three meals daily, and local wines, soft drinks and spirits; premium-brand beverages, spa massages, curio purchases, laundry and airport transfers are charged separately, along with a conservation levy. Children aged 8 and older are welcome on individual bookings at the full adult rate, while all ages are accepted when the lodge is booked for exclusive use.
