Ku Sungula Safari Lodge sits in the Balule Private Nature Reserve, roughly 40,000 hectares with unfenced borders to the Greater Kruger and the Olifants River corridor, the Drakensberg forming a backdrop. The lodge opened on 28 February 2017 and is reached from Hoedspruit, about 25 kilometres from Hoedspruit Airport.
Accommodation is in five thatched rondavels — four standard units for two guests and one wheelchair-accessible family rondavel for four — each with an en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, fan, tea and coffee facilities and a terrace. Two open-vehicle Big Five game drives run daily and guided bush walks are offered, with optional extras including Panorama Route trips, Olifants River boat trips, and balloon or microlight flights over a reserve recorded with around 250 bird species. The bar, pool, lounge and boma overlook a dry riverbed and waterhole, with a restaurant for bad weather.
