Tubu Tree Camp
Tubu Tree Camp sits on the edge of a seasonal floodplain on Hunda Island, in a transition zone between wetland and dry savannah. It's the land-based counterpart to the reserve's water-focused camps, with mopane forest, grassland and waterways all within easy reach — suited to first-time safari-goers and guests who want classic game viewing rather than a water-led stay. The camp was completely rebuilt and reopened in June 2024 while retaining the character of the original.
Eight tented suites are elevated on wooden platforms under shade trees, each with a private deck facing the floodplain and an en-suite bathroom with dual basins and an outdoor shower; the family chalet has two interconnecting rooms sharing a lounge and large deck. Public spaces — a high-ceilinged main lounge, dining room, bar and fire deck — are built in the same raised, open-sided style, with a plunge pool, sundeck and in-room massages available. Wi-Fi is in guest rooms only, laundry is included, and the camp runs on solar with generator backup.
Elephant herds move steadily between feeding areas, hippos occupy the deeper channels, and leopard and plains game are regularly seen — May offers excellent photography, while December to February brings exceptional birding. Twice-daily private game drives (including night drives) are the mainstay, alongside guided walking safaris, an optional sleep-out on a raised bush platform, and scenic helicopter flights. Mokoro, boating and catch-and-release fishing open up in the flood season. Access is by light aircraft to Hunda airstrip, about 10 minutes by vehicle; recommended stay is 3 nights. Tubu Tree pairs naturally with Jacana or Pelo for a water-and-land itinerary.
