Skybeds

Skybeds is Natural Selection's signature "sleep under the stars" concept, set beside a busy waterhole in Khwai Private Reserve. Rather than a conventional lodge, it consists of just three raised, open-air sleeping platforms — deliberately kept few to preserve intimacy — and operates seasonally (1 April–31 October) purely as an overnight add-on layered onto a stay at Elephant Pan, Tuludi, Sable Alley or Little Sable, rather than as a standalone destination.

Each platform rises roughly two storeys off the ground: a lower level houses an enclosed bathroom with indoor shower and flushing toilet, plus a canvas dome tent with two single beds as weather backup, while the top level is a fully open-air bedroom with just a double bed, mosquito net and warm bedding, offering an unobstructed view of the night sky. There is no electricity on the platforms; a separate dining/sundowner platform hosts meals around a campfire and is the only place to charge devices.

The experience is built around passive, close-quarters wildlife viewing from bed — guests routinely report elephant, lion, hyena and wild dog visiting the waterhole overnight. Daytime activities are run from the paired Khwai Private Reserve camp rather than from Skybeds itself. Children aged 16+ are welcome generally; 12-15 year-olds only on exclusive/sole-use bookings sharing a platform with an adult.
