Nxai Pan Camp

Nxai Pan Camp is the only permanent lodging within Nxai Pan National Park, part of the vast Makgadikgadi Salt Pans — the fossil bed of a prehistoric inland super-lake. The landscape swings dramatically with the seasons: dry months bring stark grassland plains grazed by gemsbok and springbok, while summer rains draw thousands of zebra as part of Africa's second-largest migration. Nearby Baines' Baobabs, made famous by explorer/artist Thomas Baines' 1862 painting and linked to David Livingstone's expeditions, is a short drive away.

The camp uses a minimalist, bleached/cream palette echoing the salt-pan setting, with open-plan communal spaces and a raised deck over a waterhole that draws wildlife year-round. Nine tented suites (8 standard, 1 family) are built under thatch, each with a private viewing deck facing the waterhole and an en-suite bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers.

Activities are led by desert specialists: game drives seeking gemsbok, springbok and elephant, guided walks with San Bushmen covering traditional survival knowledge, and dedicated excursions to Baines' Baobabs with a picnic lunch. Because the camp sits inside a national park, drives are confined to park operating hours with no off-road driving permitted.
