Moela Safari Lodge
Moela is the flagship lodge of The Lands, a small owner-operated safari company, built by hand by skilled Batswana craftspeople and artisans using locally sourced materials in an elegant blend of safari style and traditional African architecture. It sits on the high banks of the Boteti River Valley, overlooking a natural amphitheatre for one of the world's largest mammal migrations, within a 770-hectare private tribal reserve bordering Makgadikgadi Pans National Park and close to Nxai Pan National Park and the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. The reserve was converted from farmland to wildlife by Chief Ngande of Khumaga Village in the early 1980s and now offers exclusive activities plus year-round access into the Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans National Parks.
Accommodation comprises 8 en-suite, fully serviced thatched suites, each with a bedroom, bathroom, living area and its own private wildlife-viewing deck positioned to overlook the waterhole below — suitable for family groups and children. All beds include fitted mosquito nets, and daily laundry is included. The Boteti River Valley is one of the most densely populated wildlife areas in Southern Africa: migratory zebra and wildebeest gather by the thousand at the river during the dry season (June–November) directly in front of the lodge, alongside resident kudu, impala, giraffe, elephant and more.
Activities include game drives in the private concession and national park, guided walks, a Bushman experience, Makgadikgadi Salt Pans trips, specialist photographic trips and heli flips. The lodge runs on a solar hybrid power system with thermodynamic solar water heating, offers Wi-Fi at reception, and has indoor and outdoor safari dining plus a stocked library. Access is by a 2-hour road shuttle from Maun Airport (fixed daily departure times) or light aircraft to Khumaga Airstrip.
