MmaTsebe Tented Camp

MmaTsebe is an owner-run tented camp set on a private, unfenced 25-hectare property hugging the Mbudi River, a tributary of the Khwai River, with the Mopane forest engulfing guests on arrival. Bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, it enjoys a peaceful setting away from central Khwai's high-season bustle while still offering game drives that traverse both Moremi and the Khwai Concession. It is the sister camp to Tumani Tented Camp under The Okavango Collection — a company handling sales, marketing, reservations and ground support for a small group of owner-run Botswana camps, and a member of the Africa's Eden association. The property is accessible by road, 20 minutes' drive from Khwai Airstrip.

Accommodation comprises 9 classic canvas en-suite tents (4x10 metres) tucked into the Mopane forest, each with a private river-view veranda, plush canopy beds with mosquito nets and ceiling fans, a flush loo, hot shower and double vanity; rooms can be configured as double or single, with roll-away beds available for children. The large canvas-roofed main area combines indoor and outdoor dining, an all-day bar, an indoor lounge, daybeds, a swimming pool and pool lounge, furnished with repurposed pieces, unique textiles and artwork, overlooking the evergreen river frontage.

Activities centre on game drives through both Moremi and the greater Khwai region and year-round mokoro excursions launched directly from camp, alongside private bush dinners and helicopter scenics on the 25-hectare property, which is also home to resident elephant, buffalo and lechwe. Dining is a seasonal set menu of home-style Motswana-inspired cooking. The Okavango Collection recommends pairing MmaTsebe with sister camp Tumani — a 1.5-hour road transfer apart — to combine Khwai, Moremi, Mababe and Chobe National Park in one trip.
