Lagoon Camp

Lagoon Camp is Kwando Safaris' original property, established in the late 1990s along the shaded banks of the Kwando River near the Namibian border — "where it all began" for the operator. The surrounding landscape of defined river channels, floodplains and oxbow lagoons draws dry-season elephant and buffalo herds sometimes a thousand strong, which in turn attract resident lion prides skilled at hunting near the water.

Nine tented suites (8 standard, 1 family) are tucked into riverine forest overlooking the river toward Namibia, with private decks, indoor ball-and-claw bathtubs and outdoor showers. Communal areas lean toward relaxed riverfront charm — open-sided thatched dining, lounge and bar, an elevated library, and a riverfront firepit with a romantic swing.

Activities combine vehicle and water-based safari: game drives, off-road tracking, night drives, fishing, and — distinctively for this camp — double-decker boat cruises along the Kwando waterways ending with sundowners as elephant herds come to drink. Guest reviews consistently highlight strong lion and wild dog sightings alongside a welcoming, family-friendly atmosphere.
