Kanana

Kanana sits on a private concession on the Xudum River in the southwestern Delta — a landscape of palm-, fig-, ebony- and knobthorn-studded islands the operator calls a "hidden jewel." Its defining natural feature is access to one of the largest seasonal heronries in Southern Africa, making it a standout for birders alongside frequent Pel's fishing owl sightings.

Newly rebuilt and refurnished, the camp holds five-star Botswana Tourism Board status and is 100% solar-powered under EcoTourism certification. Seven en-suite tents (twin or double, large walk-in showers) plus a two-bedroom family tent sit on raised teak decking, spaced apart for privacy — explicitly positioned as child-friendly. A recently added Sleep Out Deck experience (April–November) lets guests end an activity with a fireside dinner and spend the night under mosquito netting with a private heated-shower bathroom.

Activities shift with the flood cycle: dry-season game drives (including night drives, window-seat guarantee, individual camera mounts) give way to mokoro and motorboat exploration in flood season. The area is strong for predators — lion, leopard and wild dog regularly den or hunt nearby — with fishing available nearly year-round except January–February.
