&Beyond Savute Under Canvas
Savute Under Canvas sits in one of Chobe National Park's most storied and remote corners, where the mysterious Savute Channel flows and dries independently of rainfall. After decades dry, the channel resumed flowing in recent years, transforming the area into lush, marshy wilderness and drawing elephant bulls year-round, healthy lion prides, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, giraffe and kudu, plus leopard and African wild dog sightings, and huge baobabs across the landscape.
The camp channels classic tented-safari romance: five tents each with a double bed, ensuite bathroom with separate flushing WC, and a steaming hot bucket shower delivered on request (no piped hot water). Guest areas are communal dining/lounge tents, with staff serving meals cooked over open coals.
Activities are focused purely on twice-daily game drives (no boating, given Savute's inland, non-riverine setting). Access is strictly fly-in via Savute Airstrip; self-drive is not permitted under national park vehicle restrictions. The camp has previously featured in Resorts Magazine's Top 100 Places to Stay (2012).
